For the Boys

It's Daddy's turn to talk. Your husbands may appreciate this.

Men and women will always be different and therefore have a tough time understanding each other. God made us different. It's those differences that draw us closer to one another. Unfortunately it's those same differences that make us roll our eyes at the other person two sentences later (but not where they can see us do it, right?)

There is one subject though in our house that my lovely wife has become vocal about not understanding...the COWBOYS. No, I'm not talking about guys on horseback, wearing hats, chaps, and spurs...I'm talking about the Dallas Cowboys! The team I have loved from a young age. The reason I bleed blue. It drives me crazy here in the Carolina's that I hardly ever get to watch them because the Panthers or Falcons takes precedence. But that's another rant for another day.

Marriage is about give and take (ok, it's suppose to be about giving only, but sometimes KLee lets me take.) On our recent trip home to Texas for Christmas, I told KLee that I wanted to TAKE a drive by the new stadium...she said yes without rolling her eyes! During the holidays I TOOK in two games on TV, Baltimore & Philly...she said yes, but that she was going to nap and slightly rolled her eyes (I assume, I didn't actually see her do it). Then, out of the blue, she asks me what I want for my birthday. I had just TAKEN a trip to the store to buy 2 replica Cowboys jerseys for 2 Falcons fans that I am trying to witness to here in SC, when it hit me! "Honey, I'd like a Cowboys Jersey for myself. But not just any jersey, I'd like one of my hero...number 12...Roger Staubach!" "Ok, how much are they?" she said. "$225...BUT, I know we can't afford that and I don't want to spend that much on an authentic one, I'm ok with fake." And KLee GAVE it a shot at the Cowboys Pro Shop at the mall the next day while shopping, only to find out that the "fake" one was still going to be $95. Well, the days of her saying yes officially ended...after a back and forth word exchange in front of her brother and sister-in-law, I was not getting a #12 for my birthday until I heard the magic words. "You can't spend more than $50 on it". I was on a mission...to find a sewn on letters/numbers, non-screen printed, Staubach jersey for $50. So why did I want it so bad? I decided to do some research and here's what I found.

Can you believe it? This is crazy! I had trouble finding a picture of me under the age of 6 that didn't have Cowboy stuff in it. It all made sense now! It was ingrained into me and no matter how much KLee couldn't understand, I had to find a #12!

Well, EBay is my new best friend, because as you can see below, you can't take the boy out of the man!...or maybe you can't get the boy to grow up?....I don't know, but what matters now is I can now watch Cowboy games like they were meant to be. Wearing Blue & WHITE! ROLL THOSE EYES, HONEY!

Now, as bad as this post sounds with rolling eyes, bashing the Carolina's, and waisting $50 (that was suppose to be for REAL clothes that I actually needed) I have to say one thing. Although my wife doesn't completely understand this Cowboys Quirk I have, she did let me take this picture a few years back...

....that's right, my first Cowboys game (in Carolina of all places), on Christmas Eve, with guys from the church. Proof that no matter how much men and women don't understand each other's differences, we still love each other and love GIVING to one another. Thank you KLee, I owe you Big Time! Wanna wear my jersey?...

While you were at that game, I (8 months prego with LilE) went to the Christmas Eve service alone. Yes, I do love you!

How about 'em COWBOYS? While we don't have many role models to look up to today, #12 was a good choice. Hope this will go down as one of your special b'day presents.

:) Very nice post! I'm glad you got your jersey--gotta love ebay! Ben is really "into" the Steelers, so he's loving the Super Bowl this year.
