Service Project

One of my friends teaches a home school group that happens to meet at the church. From time to time they find a service project to help with. This year I was able to partner with them through Usborne books. Each student participated in a read-a-thon titled Reading for a Reason. They went door to door asking for pledges. The students were raising money to purchase books for the Single Mom's Oil Change at our church. Every 3 months the church hosts this event at no charge for the single mom's in the area. Last year they gave away gifts at the oil change. We thought this would be a great avenue for the students to serve. Usually in a situation like this, the students would get 50% in books and 50% would be donated to a cause. Not this group!! They decided to give away 80% of the funds they collected! It gets better, folks! They raised $1700! These are some of the most selfless kids I have ever met! What a blessing for these moms as they come to have the oil changed in their cars and they will leave with a little extra gift to go under the tree!
