Now is the time for the really fun stuff--baking! Here are two tasty treats that were baking in our home this week! Hope you enjoy them as much as we did. (and I will hopefully add a couple of pics when the card readers finds its way back.)
Apple Butter
Original recipe from the CrockPot Lady. Here are the changes I made to her recipe. It is super tasty!
14-16 large apples fit in my 6.5 quart crockpot
1 TBSP vanilla
2 tsp cinnamon
3/4 cup white sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp cloves
This is a 2-day process. Peel and slice the apples and place in the crock pot. Add 1 tablespoon of vanilla. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours. When the cooking is done, mash the apples with a fork (or pasty blender or potato masher). Stir in the sugar, cinnamon, and cloves. Cover again and cook on low for 6-8 hours. If you prefer your apple butter to be velvety-smooth, blend with an immersion blender, or blend in small batches in a traditional blender. I did not do this.
Dutch Apple Pie
This is the easiest and best recipe. Thanks Nonnie!3-4 Apples, peeled and sliced
Single pie crust
1 cup sugar
1 TBSP cinnamon
Place apples in crust. Mix cinnamon and sugar together and pour over apples.
Topping:
Blend 1/2 cup sugar, 3/4 cup flour & 1/3 cup butter (softened).
Sprinkle on top of cinnamon/sugar mixture.
Sprinkle on top of cinnamon/sugar mixture.
Preheat oven to 450. Bake for 15 minutes. Then decrease temp to 350 and bake another 30 minutes (approx).

yumm-O! sounds like a tasty treat!
We'll have to try both of those, they sound delicious!
Next time, you'll have to go into Hendersonville which is 10 minutes down the road. It's such a fun little town with lots of shops, restaurants etc. Sounds fun...we actually did that day trip today!
I know we enjoyed the apple orchard experience a year or two back. I'm not an apple lover, but they do taste better picked right off the tree. LilE looks like she enjoys the treat as well.
