For Summer Spectacular (VBS) this year, our church did the High Seas theme. Check out that set!
Back in January it was said over and over, "It is NOT a pirate theme." Then JD started joking about using a pirate to promote the week and to recruit workers. And then, somewhere, somehow, a pirate really did get worked into the skit. He actually became the main character each day. Interesting, huh?
But Captain Grey Beard taught our 350 1st-5th graders that God's Word is true, comforting, surprising, life-changing, and for everyone.
They learned where these traits were found in the Bible in some phenomenal Bible story time. Check out the ship they are on!
The music was upbeat and a fun way to worship God each day.
The kids also provided toiletries for the sailors who port in Charleston. The International Seafarers Ministry will provide each sailor with a travel kit when they arrive. JD was able to see this ministry first hand back in May.
It was a great week, complete with 24 new lives for the Kingdom! Praise to GOD for all that was done that week! He deserves ALL THE GLORY!!

That's a great idea for a craft. I was just talking with someone the other day about how VBS crafts are such a waste of time because the kids create meaningless junk and it piles up at home. How many picture frames, water bottles, light switch covers, and bird houses do children need? I am glad they did something where they could have fun and benefit others.
