Because of the snow that came through Texas on the 24th (WF got about 10 inches!), we were delayed going to see Daddy's family until the 26th. The roads were iced over and a typical 2 1/2 hour drive was reported to have taken 12 hours by some friends of friends on the 25th (when we supposed to have gone). We are so glad we didn't try and make the journey.
Even after waiting a day, there was still some adventure to be had. About 70 miles outside of Daddy's hometown traffic came to a halt. You know things are bad when the 18-wheeler in front of you puts the truck in park. Daniel came to pick us up (since he likes the adventure of driving on ice and snow and has 4 wheel drive). He and Daddy are not very patient men. They got out of the truck and were scheming up how they could cross the median to get out of the jam. About the time they had it all figured out, the helicopter flew over head telling everyone to "Get back into your vehicle. The road has been reopened." Crazy.
Typically we do not get out of the car to wave on the side of the highway!

I can't believe you were stuck in that mess...in Texas!!! My uncle was in Dallas (from Calif) on the 26th but was stuck and couldn't fly out so missed our family reunion. Glad you got through safe!
Probably a good thing you didn't try to climb the median, we saw lots of people who had apparently tried just that...the next day! There were countless cars stuck on both sides and in the middle of the highway our entire trip across the state!
