Our church hosted its Second Annual Face of Missions Weekend. During the weekend an offering is collected for International, North American, and state missions. All of the money collected will go to benefit the missionaries on the field as they work to win people groups to the Lord!
The weekend also consisted of a time to learn about the work around the world. Missionaries from all over the world were present at the FOM Extravaganza on Saturday night. Each missionary and organization had a booth for us to visit and share what is going on with their ministries. There were even children's booths with interactive ways for our children to learn about what they can do to help and how they can pray for others.
She was also able to pack Nalgene bottles full of protein bars and toiletries for participants in the Iditarod in Alaska (after the two week race), pack bags for Olympic athletes, and decorate bandanas for students who will be doing construction work with World Changers.
We also learned about all the trips our church will be taking this next year. I have not been on a mission trip since my senior year in high school. I am jealous of all JD's trips. One day I will be able to go with him, and eventually as a family. I am praying as to whether or not this year is my year to go.
And finally, we were able to turn in our Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes. I will be honest. This was my first year to do one. Before moving to the Southeast, I had never heard of OCC. In a nutshell, it is an opportunity for me to give a Christmas gift (whatever will fit in a shoebox) to a child who will probably not get any other gift this year. But more importantly, they will hear about the love Jesus has for them!
LilE and I talked about the shoebox. I even showed her some videos online about the boxes. We then headed out to Dollar Tree to buy toys for a little girl LilE's age. She was so great! Never once did she complain that the toys were not for her. When Daddy came home, she was so excited to show him all that she got for "the little girl my age."
I payed online so we will be able to track our box! We can't wait to see where it ends! And hopefully we will receive a letter (or picture) from our sweet 2-4 year aged little girl!
What a blessing it has been to participate this year! I see many more boxes in the future for our family to fill!

It looks like LilE was a good student and helper! We actually packed our first and second OCC boxes this year. I wish we were more active in missions, other than giving.

I had the time this year to pack a shoebox. Actually, we packed two--one for a 5-9 yr old girl and one for a 10-14 year old boy. (I really felt compelled to do one for an older child.) I*t is amazing how many things you can fit into a shoe box. Good job LilE. Some little girl will have a special Christmas because of you!
