Back at the beginning of May, LilE began to say "what?" all.the.time. Yes, I know, she is 3 and that is what 3 years olds like to say. But there was something in my gut that said it was more than that. You know, mother's intuition. There were times after she would ask that I could turn and ask her "what did Mommy say?" and she would repeat what I said. But there were times when she would say 'what?' and I knew she should have heard me (aka no distractions) and she would just look at me and shrug her shoulders. This went on for about 2 weeks before I took her into the office where I work and asked a co-worker to check her hearing. Sure enough, she failed. Three times!
I called the pediatrician and he automatically referred us onto the ENT. We went in and had some more in depth testing done and confirmed that she did have some hearing loss in both of her ears. Before resorting to tubes, he started us on some Flonase and this balloon contraption. She is to blow up the balloon with her NOSE! You know when your ears are stopped up (like in an airplane or driving up a mountain) and you close off your nose with your hand and blow to equalize the pressure? Well, that is what the balloon blowing up does. It took us three weeks to get her to even try it. And now she would play with it all the time if we would let her.
Our 6 week check up was rescheduled for mid August. Hopefully we will receive a good update!

Boy, that balloon looks like a lot of fun! ;) Glad to hear that they are able to do something for her. Hopefully you get a good report!!
Oh my goodness! I would have just chalked it up to the age....maybe I should check into that?? I hear 'Huh?' all day long with d2. And that picture is hilarious!!
That picture is pretty funny! Could be blackmail down the road:) Mommy always knows best!!!
Poor thing! Hope the balloon helps!
Good for you for going with your gut instinct - there's nothing like that Mommy's intuition! I hope everything checks out OK in August!
Glad you got her checked out and they can do something for her. Blowing up the balloon with her nose is too funny!!!
