So Long Friend

While living in Ft Worth, Daddy was involved in an after school programs called Ft. Travis. The church we attended partnered with an elementary school in the neighborhood (primarily Hispanic), picked up the kids from school, and provided homework assistance and also programming to share the gospel with them. (Probably something similar to Good News Clubs on a much smaller scale).

Back to the main point.

While Daddy spent time with these kids each week he met a number of other seminary students who loved kids and more importantly love the Lord. Mere was one of these people. Unfortunately, at this time I did not know her.

Fast forward to November 2004. Daddy had been working for nearly 6 months and was in need of an assistant for this ministry gig he was in. :) He remembered Mere and talked with her. She was interested enough to fly out and interview. (Remember, she is a seminary grad. Way overqualified for this position, but in need of a full time job.)

She made the trek from Texas to SC posing as my "friend." At this point I was finally able to meet her for the first time. While visiting for the weekend and interviewing as the Children's ministry assistant, it quickly became apparent to all other parties that she was indeed way overqualified. And they asked her not to come on staff as an assistant, but as the Minister of Preschool and Missions.

I praise the Lord that the 'posing' as friends didn't last long, but instead became a full fledged friendship that would last for years to come! She moved to SC in January of 2005 and we quickly hit it off. I learned about her heart for missions and her intense love for the Lord. We have been able to laugh and cry together. I have been able to walk beside her as she met the man of her dreams. And we have been there for each other as both of us have welcomed precious baby girls into this world.

What a joy and privilege it has been to spend the last 4 1/2 years in the same city! This week, my friend is moving away. It was a bittersweet day telling her 'good-bye.' I am so excited for the journey she is on with her family. The Lord has been with her each and every step of the way and I know He will continue to lead them each and every day. What a blessing she is to me!

I am so jealous that I will not get to say goodbye to her in person before they leave the country! I know Mere was so blessed to have you as a friend in SC and I am so blessed to have gotten to meet you through Mere!

Sigh...that was so sweet. Is it just me or is this life just a constant stream of good-byes?

Ah! Don't make me cry ( I already am!) I love you Kendra and it is a new chapter in our journey as friends. You are so precious to me and we can only look back and see how the Lord brought me to SC and I am so thankful for our paths to cross in fast and sure ways. You are a treasured friend.

As I sit here and read this, I realize I am so late in reading your blog and I am so sorry! Things have been busy here in training....

Be sure and give Emma a hug from Sarah!
Love,
Mere
