Shepherding the Staff

Two years ago we went to Hilton Head for this fabulous conference (Shepherding the Staff)put on by the SCBC for non-pastoral staff. As staff we are giving 51 weekends of the year. This is a weekend for us as a couple to be fed spiritually. Honestly, the 2007 conference was geared toward staff, but not the spouses. Bummer for me. The ladies and I enjoyed not having to cook, not being mommy, and the shopping was grand.
After taking a year off, the SCBC has brought back the StS conference. This year it was WONDERFUL!! We rode to Myrtle Beach with some great friends (getting to see the scenic route and history of the PeeDee area--I didn't know this part of SC existed until now).

The Columns-A home featured in Gone with the Wind
Friday night Jake Gulledge, the worship leader, gave his testimony. I laughed and cried. It was a great night. His story hit home for Daddy and me and brought us to our knees.
Saturday we had a couple of sessions led by Richard Blackaby. Incredible speaker. One session was on joy. We are to remember that we have the fullness of joy when we are in the presence of God (Ps 16:11). And even when times are not as we have intended, there is still joy at the foot of the Cross.

In his second session, Richard spoke on trusting the Lord in painful times. We do not understand what God is doing, but He is still on the throne and has reasons we cannot see for doing what he doing. I need to trust Him!

Both sessions just blew me away.

Saturday afternoon we hit the Outlets and found some great finds. I got two shirts for 5o cents EACH! I learned to take Daddy with me when I shop for LilE. He thought everything was too cute not to get!

This is my favorite purchase. Can you believe I found it in SC?

The hat, not the girl. Although she is my favorite person I have met in SC!
We ended the evening at Abuelo's! I was in some Mexican food heaven!

The Ed Staff
We stayed at the fabulous Embassy Suites, right on the water. Both nights all of the staff got together for a game of Cranium. It was fun playing with everyone. These guys won. They also picked the teams. Hmmm...

We left our doors open and slept to the roar of the ocean. It was a perfect weekend away!

Still totally bummed that we didn't get to go with y'all. Heaven knows we needed(and still need) it. But so glad God used that weekend in your lives!

And I'm trying not to hold it against theEdge. j/k

Praise the Lord for great retreats! Sounds like you were renewed both spiritually and physically. We all need retreats in our busy, routine lives. So thankful you had the wonderful opportunity.

Glad that LilE had a good weekend as well as you. Both probably needed a little separation-renewal time. I could almost hear the theme from Gone with the Wind as I viewed the picture of the plantation. Still a great book and movie.
