My Sweet Grandma

UPDATE 9.17.07 @ 9:30pm: The surgery went well. Praise God, all of the cancer has been removed!! They took care of a couple of other things while they were inside. Please continue to pray because the recovery road will be a long one! She will probably be in the hospital for at least another couple of weeks.

I have the best grandma around! I know you think you do, but not quite! First off, she loves the Lord! And that is really all she needs, but of course, there is more! She loves her family and her friends and her church. She is always positive about everything. When I was in college, I got packages every week with homemade cookies! I still get letters all the time just to see how things are going and to let me know she is praying for me!
One thing I hate about living in SC is that I do not get to see my extended family very often. Growing up we lived within an hour drive of family, so at least once a month we were able to visit Grandma. I miss those regular visits.
Today was her church's 125th anniversary. Of those 125 years, Grandma has been the church clerk, taking notes, etc at their business meetings for 50 years! She has also taught Sunday School for many years (as long as I can remember) , and done MANY things with the shut-ins at the church. At this Jubilee 125 today, she was honored for her 50 years as clerk! What a blessing!! But...
She was not able to be apart of this celebration at church. She was diagnosed with cancer last week and has been in the hospital all week. She is having surgery tomorrow and therefore could not be apart of the service. I have been so frustrated that something like this could happen to such a devoted woman of God. It doesn't make sense that she should have to go through this. And to miss this presentation (which was a surprise to her) to honor her. What makes that fair? I then have to remind myself that I do not see the big picture. I pray (and know it will happen) that God will receive the glory! She is in this hospital, with this diagnosis for a reason! God has it all planned out! Maybe she couldn't make the service because she is being a witness for Christ to all the doctors, nurses, cafeteria ladies, housekeepers, etc in the hospital. These staff members watch and see that she is different. She has so many friends that have come to visit her and have called her (I tried and tried on Wednesday night to call, but the phone was busy every time I called) and I am sure her room is full of plants and flowers! These friends come and pray with her and if one life is saved because of her testimony, I know this cancer is not in vain!
Last Thursday when I spoke with her, some people from the church surprised her with the presentation they were to do this morning! She was moved that they would do this for her! Thanks to those who came to her room to let her know just how special she is! Please pray with me for Grandma as she has several weeks of recovery ahead.
I desire to be a woman who is so faithful to the Lord, who loves Him with all her heart, and serves him without thinking twice about it...just like Grandma!

Hey, I know that's rough to not be there for her right now. I'll be praying for her and your family. That's cool that she has been with the church for so long! She definitely is a testimony for God. Thanks for the notice. Keep me posted. We'll be praying!

Definitely praying for your grandma tomorrow and in the coming weeks. Also praying for you guys and your family. Our God is big and loving and He knows what is best for Grandma. I'm sure she'd be the first to testify to it.
