I heard on the radio that last night (Sunday) was to be a great night for a meteor shower. It was to start around 10pm and be at it's peak right before dawn. I'm pumped. When I was in elementary school I really wanted to be an astronaut. So star gazing is fun for me. When I lived in Abilene (West Texas) it was the greatest. Flat land, nothing but farm land for miles and miles, and no city lights! I went out on numerous occasions with friends. Great times.
Back to reality...
Daddy got a hammock two years ago when he was in Brazil. We don't have a spot for a Brazilian hammock, so he and Pop tried to Americanize it a while back. Hammock ripped. He then decided to get some strapping and sew it on. Since I am not Martha Stewart, we had to borrow a friend's machine. Again, since I am not Martha Stewart, we had to find time for Daddy to sew it. Meteor shower= great need for a hammock. He gets everything out and starts sewing. After about 4 inches, needle breaks. How about camp chairs?
It's now about 11pm. Head to the back yard. Camera and tripod in tow. Daddy messes with the camera. I sit back and start to watch. Daddy joins me. Nothing. Nothing. Then I see one! Daddy missed it. He hasn't seen one before, so I was bummed. We stayed out for about an hour. Then I was fed up. We decide to set the alarm for about 4am. Daddy gets up to go see if anything is happening. He stays out for about 15 minutes and sees nothing. Dang. Back to sleep we will go. (We did have a friend say she saw some on Saturday night, so maybe we will look again tonight before we hit the sack).
Oh, and we live in the city. So it wasn't dark. Sleeping Beauty says we can't go driving. This is the best pic of the night sky we got. Enjoy the orange glow of the nearby plant!

Thanks for lunch----I love that E gets so excited when she sees me....makes my day! funny story--maybe we should all drive out to some farm and set up camp.......
Back in high school some friends and I went to the lake and sat on the dock to watch a meteor shower. Not a single one! I don't know how long we sat out there, but eventually we started to fall asleep and just went home.
Ah star gazing in Abilene. Been there, done that...multiple times! :) I remember going over to Anson to see the lights there as well. What other fun things were there to do in Abilene? We all know the mall was not the most fun! Ben saw that Abilene is #32 best place to live in the US. By whose standards???
Setting the alarm for 4am...you guys mean business. I think it's the lights from town that make it so much harder to see these things. Maybe you'll have better luck tonight
HA! My computer screen has so much dust on it that I couldn't figure our which dots were stars and which ones were dust particles!! Maybe I should clean this thing:)
Thanks for letting us know about the showers! Seth and I might have to check them out after Luke is down tonight! Enjoy being able to keep up with you and your family through your blog! Miss you!
