Christmas Questionaire

I have seen this on several of the blogs that I read on a once to twice a week basis. So I thought I would participate in the holiday cheer.

1. Egg nog or hot chocolate? Hot chocolate for sure. And it's better with flavored coffee creamer and lots of marshmallows on top.
2. Does Santa wrap presents or just set them under the tree? They are already put together ready to play under the tree.
3. Colored lights or white? I grew up with colored, but our tree has white lights...pre-lit for the 5th year!
4. Do you hang mistletoe? No, but I think about it every year and have yet to get any. Maybe next year.
5. When do you decorate for Christmas? I am not a fan of the hustle and bustle of the day after Thanksgiving sales, so we stay home and bust out the Christmas CDs and decorate.
6. What is your favorite holiday dish, excluding dessert? I really like all the dips and crackers/chips. Christmas Eve we usually do an appetizer thing and it is the yummiest! So nothing specific...I like it all!
7. Favorite holiday memory as a child? My mom was apart of an organization that put on "The Little Old House" (I think). This was a house that was part of Save Old Cleburne, to make sure the house is not torn down. This was the teeniest house, but it was so warm and inviting. Each room of the house had something Christmasy to do. One room had Christmas ornament making (see #10), another room had games for the kids, Christmas Treats/Drinks were set up in the kitchen, and then there was the room to sit on Santa's Lap. Just plain ol' warm Christmas memories!
8. When and how, did you learn the truth about Santa? There is a Santa! If you don't believe, you don't receive!
9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? Always have. Mom and Dad started the tradition long ago. It is always (except once) pajamas. And ONLY ONCE was it not pajamas!
10. How do you decorate your Christmas tree? Growing up we (Blake and I) received one new ornament every year. Not sure if this was started at birth with this plan or not: When we got married, we would take all the ornaments from the years gone by to have ornaments of our own to hang on the tree of our new family. That is what is decorating my tree, plus the "filler ornaments" and white lights. This is the last year for B's ornaments to be in Mom's possession, unless she has already passed them on since he has a new house he and Leigh could decorate.
11. Snow. Love it or hate it? There is something magical about snow since I don't see it often. Growing up in Texas, the snow melts as it hits the ground, if not before. Ice, on the other hand, will accumulate inches thick...hate it! But I have a husband who loves to use the 4-wheel drive on the car!
12. Can you ice skate? Ha! No.
13. Do you remember your favorite gift? Probably the best was Mitzi, the was our Sheltie. She definitely was the gift that was played with for years after Christmas. Gifts that were eventually put away, to name a few, were a bike, She-Ra Princess of Power Castle, Teddy Ruxpin, and a Cabbage Patch Doll or two.
14. What is the most important thing about the holidays to you? Jesus! It has been exciting to look at Mary in a different way this year since it is my first Christmas as a mommy. Knowing that Jesus was a baby, just like my Little E, making the same coos, laughs, toots...he was real, but he was perfect! And then she had to follow him to the cross. What a sacrifice! But also what an honor for Mary to be his nurturer while he was on the earth.
15. What is your favorite holiday dessert? I love anything sweet! Especially anything chocolate. I do like the candy that is made up of saltines, hardened sugar, chocolate and has nuts on top. Not sure of the official name, but it isn't the easiest to make. I tried.
16. What is your favorite holiday tradition? Christmas morning we play a game to see who gets to open the next gift. It is funny how over the years it has changed. We used to want to win to open the gifts, now we want to savor the moments and watch everyone else open their gifts.
17. What tops your tree? An angel ornament.
18. Which do you prefer, giving or receiving? I love to give. I wish I had an unlimited budget to give and keep giving. So I have to shop for the sales (not after Thanksgiving, of course) and use those coupons!
19. What is your favorite Christmas song? O Holy Night for the traditional song. My favorite Christmas CD for the 3rd year in a row is Rose of Bethlehem by Selah.
20. Candy canes. Yuck or yum? Yum if I have bad breath, but I usually don't pick one up just to munch on.
(Thanks Beth for letting me borrow this pic!)

Kendra,
Could you send me some of the games you have played in the past to see who gets to open presents next. That sounds fun!
Thanks!

It was interesting to see how you remembered Christmas as a child and how I remember it. Reading some of your comments warms my heart! I was a little surprised about your Mitzi comment. I still miss her, BUT I don't want another dog!
